6Music boss thinks you’re an idiot

By Rebecca Nicholson

As a lady, you listen to music differently. You prefer to get “emotional” about it. You’re less interested in the smart stuff, like where it comes from. And, ideally, you’ll like a radio station more if it features a hot boy explaining why music is good and stuff.

At least, that’s what 6Music thinks of you. Lesley Douglas, boss of both 6Music and Radio 2, spoke out in defence of criticisms levelled against newest recruit George Lamb, who’s proving unpopular with a vocal bunch of musos who object to his inane witterings. But Douglas explained that 6Music is simply changing the way it talks about music to attract more female listeners, and George Lamb is part of that.

It’s all for you, ladyfolk! He’s a dreamboat! Maybe, if he talks even slower and drops in a few references to Heat magazine, Loose Women and chocolate, we might start to understand this “music” lark properly.

“Men tend to be more interested in the intellectual side of the music, the tracks, where albums have been made, that sort of thing,” Douglas told Radio 4’s Feedback show on Friday. "We want to broaden it out - there is absolutely no reason why women shouldn't love 6Music as much as men love 6Music."

Except that you’re not treating your male listeners like complete idiots. Now, who wants to talk about shoes?

Oh

Did you mention kittens? No? Because I'm not sure why I'm reading an article about music if it doesn't mention kittens.

Excuse me while I go get emotional...

I enjoy

George Lamb's radio show in the mornings, his co-presenter, Mark (?) is hilarious. I've never listened to it and thought it's dumbing things down for the ladies, it's a pretty dumb show full stop. But as far as early morning radio banter goes, it's better than Chris Moyles.

To be fair

George Lamb is pretty hot.

Oh. Bloody hell.

"Oh my god!

George Lamb is like totally hot, and if I didn't listen to his radio show I'd clearly not be able to have conversations with other fit boys about music like the Enemy and the Maccabees that fit boys with Bench tees really like!"

I joke, but as I keep meeting girls who have decided they like 'indie music' because indie boys are nicer to them than other men, it interests me somewhat. Presuming of course that you think lambykins knows a thing or too about the aural art form (?!). But, yeah us gals are too busy reading heat and pondering what celebrity x is doing this week to know what band Feist was in before she was Feist - right?

NB: Is he fit? Really?! (Saying this, I do have a celebrity crush on Louis Theroux right now so I may not be the best person to ask)
