Dear Lesley Douglas...
In the run-up to Girl Friday next Friday (that's March 7 from 5.30, keen readers) we had a thought. Who better to invite to our big free event at the Southbank than 6Music controller Lesley Douglas? After all, a lot of you have been more than keen to talk about her in the last couple of weeks. Plus she's (1) keen to understand the other woman's mind a little better and (2) score some more female listeners – lots of whom will be in attendance, from the messages we've had so far – so why shouldn't she kill two birds with one stone? Not that we suggest she comes armed with rocks to vault at Laetitia Sadier and our across-the-pond headliner. We're a peaceful lot here, ma'am.
So here's the letter I wrote to Lesley Douglas late last night, under a fug of black coffee, the thought of George Lamb making my heart boil like my Woolworths Value kettle. And if the 6Music controller doesn't reply, we'll write her another.
Let us know what you think of it.

if you want to attract more women
why don't you try and bring through some young female talent, rather than relying on 'bought in' celebrity, comedians to present on a specialist music channel, and clients of the john noel agency.
And while your at it, could you tell me if the controller of 1xtra is having such problems- and if the audience of 1xtra would tolerate people who know nothing about the music....
Thats what a specialist station is about lesley
Good for you.
Stitch that, Lesley 'So Called' Douglas.
6 Music
Lesley is doing what all the BBC crew do. Claiming they want to make things broader and making generalisations about both women and men.
The truth is that its more "celebrity" bollocks and inane chatter.
It's just ratings chasing which of course they claim they don't do....but it's how they measure themselves.
