#15: Ungdomskulen

By Rachel Kellehar

Norwegian experimentalists Ungdomskulen don’t play by the rules, you know. They gallop into the no-mans land between Sonic Youth, The Melvins and Black Sabbath like excitable jockeys, crafting seven-minute wonders of furious guitar-driven post-punk with the unabashed abandon of hyperactive six-year-olds on sherbert. Then add to the mix some mind-blowing percussive breakdowns and falsetto vocals about everything from sex to Spartacus. Don’t they sound marvellous?

After some explosive live performances, the Bergen three-piece have been hand picked by The Young Knives as support for their current UK tour, so get yourself a ticket pronto.

Check out the video to their forthcoming download-only single Modern Drummer here. (N.B. If you are hungover, we recommend donning a pair of sunglasses before viewing.)
