Hear Girls Aloud singing in French / chantant en français
They have reality TV roots, bad tattoos and very questionable taste in men, but all is forgiven every time Girls Aloud unleash another sexy slice of power pop. New single Can't Speak French (dissed by Leonie yesterday, but re-evaluated today) is no exception. And, not only does it have the fabulous indie-boy-baiting Hoxton Heroes as a b-side, but also a version of the track sung entirely in French. And here it is!
Can you speak French? The lyrics aren't very intelligible (especially Nadine who, let's face it, struggles at the best of times) but it's certainly not a direct translation of the original. So just what are Girls Aloud singing in French? Somebody please enlighten us…
Rough Guide
It’s just a rough translation, their accents are a little incomprehensible. It’s not particularly poetic either. Feel free to make corrections...
I’ve waited so long, it’s strong, this time it’s here
Who can question my racing heart?
I listen to the rhythm of my heartbeat, oh yes, this boy pleases me,
It’s all for him, I adore his French accent…
It looks like we’re well matched
As we can dance
All night
He wants to chat and I admit
I truly don’t understand a thing
Our languages [tongues] separate us
We go over it again
I should have chosen a film
With option V.O. [Which isn’t dubbed]
But before the end credits fall I make my retort
I don’t speak French, but let the funky music do the talking, our bodies agree
Oh I don’t speak French but let the funky music keep us dancing
Oh oh oh
I don’t speak French, but let the funky music do the talking, our bodies agree
Oh I don’t speak French but let the funky music keep us dancing
Oh oh oh
I want you to understand me
Words only cause pain
Tomorrow who will remember?
Hold yourself against me
[Repeat]
Oh Oooh
I don’t speak French, but let the funky music do the talking, our bodies agree
Oh I don’t speak French but let the funky music keep us dancing
Oh oh oh
I don’t speak French, but let the funky music do the talking, our bodies agree
Oh I don’t speak French but let the funky music keep us dancing
Oh oh oh
