New Music Monday: April 14

By Rebecca Nicholson

The Kooks - Konk (album)

Praise be, Luke Kook has managed to settle on a region of this nation to place his accent, and it goes by the name of PaulWellerShire. That's no excuse for calling your album Konk, is it?

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement (single)

Alex Turner and his Rascal-ly chum Miles are riding the Scott Walker wagon to Western land with their wordy new side-project. All the ingredients are there, but so far it's leaving us a little cold. We're holding out for the album, though.

Mariah Carey - E=MC2 (album)

Deserves to sell more than Leona Lewis for the gall of the title alone, but given that Mimi also compares herself to Biggie and Tupac within, it's gone beyond mere sales figures and into the realms of mind-blowing fabulousness.

Portishead - Machine Gun (single)

Surely this is what the end of the world sounds like? And looks like, too, going by this spooky video.

Goldfrapp - Happiness (single)

The second single from Seventh Tree, Happiness, is noticeably more upbeat (obviously, given that title) than A&E, but what's really grabbing us here is the video - look at that man bouncing! His calf muscles must have been knackered.

We are sticky-taping the last few pieces of the comments system together right now. You should be able to have your say in no time at all - thanks for being a patient type and check back in the next couple of days.
