#49: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
Leaving their self-produced debut Broom trembling in its wake like an emo kid at a frat party, this US quartet of Yeltsin aficionados have pulled out all the stops on their sophomore release Perishing, and bloody hell, has it been worth the wait. SSLYBY are renowned for their idiosyncratic, quirky brand of independent popular music, and Perishing is bolder, smarter, and more playfully eclectic than its predecessor, packed with sumptuous melodies and distorted, pseudo-surf-rock guitars that can’t fail to tickle your fancy. Tumbling beats and chirruping wood blocks whip up reveries both acid and cream, whilst tightly harmonised vocals wittily disseminate subjects of both a bright and disturbing variety.
Perishing is out on May 19 through Polyvinyl, but in the meanwhile check out this video for single Think I Wanna Die. It’s dark, but oh so tasty:
