We bring you good news and bad about the lady singer of soul known as Mary J Blige. Bad news first.

Along with Steve Stoute, US record company big-wig and sometime manager of Nas, Blige recently formed a "Youth-rintated brand-consulting firm", which, to be frank sounds ruddy awful and more than a little bit shameless.

But thankfully, it leads us to the good news! Thanks to the success of their far more shameless venture, Blige and Stoute are now setting up the Foundation For The Advancement Of Women Now, a charity which aims to help women in the Yonkers area of New York – where Blige grew up – by funding scholarships and grants to help local women learn career skills and gain confidence.

After whipping the ladies of Yonkers into shape, the Foundation has plans to move onto the rest of New York, and then, by Jiminy, the whole of America!
