New Music Monday: May 12
That's not her name! Jesus, she's told you enough times. As well as The Ting Tings, you can buy Black Lips, Martha Wainwright, Lil Mama and Ladytron in the shops this week...
Black Lips - Bad Kids (single)
Black Lips make us ridiculously happy. Here's why, in a list: xylophone noises, doowop backing vocals, tambourine shakes, karaoke lyrics and the fact that, like all truly good songs, it is barely two minutes long.
The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name (single)
"They call me (insert girl's name here)! THAT'S NOT MY NAME!" x 1000. Just tell us what it is in the first line. Save yourself a lot of trouble.
Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too (album)
Yes, it's FM-friendly and yes, it's very good in a Fleetwood Mac way. But we don't understand why more reviewers haven't mentioned Tower, the album's stunning, string-soaked, super-theatrical highlight. So we are doing it ourselves. Tower: very good indeed. It's not online, so the video is a clip from Bleeding All Over You.
Lil Mama - Shawty (Get Loose) (single)
Single of the week by miles, for having the gall to shorten Janet Jackson to "Janet Jack", all for the sake of a killer rhyme. Look out for more Lil Mama on the Lipster later in the week.
Ladytron - Ghosts (single)
You know how Doctor Who has been cooled-up by Russell T Davies? They should get Ladytron in to do the theme tune - on the basis of this, they'd do a cracking job.
