BBC gets creepy on Wimbledon coverage
This video, from the BBC Sport website, is a bit icky, isn't it? It features former German tennis pro Michael Stich 'interviewing' Wimbledon's top lady seed and world number one Ana Ivanovic. If you're of a nervous disposition, or have perhaps just eaten your lunch, we will save you the bother of watching it by transcribing the yuckiest bits.
"As a player, I remember you always had to answer the same questions hundreds of times," says Mikey to camera. "For that reason, I tried to find some questions to ask Ana Ivanovic that were different." Hoorah, say we. And here they are!
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"There will be a time you get jewellery as a present from someone. Do you get a lot of love letters?"
"You're very successful... you're very beautiful, there must be a lot of young guys?"
And in response to a polite answer...
"That's good to know for a lot of guys who really like you and would like to spend some time with you!"
Creepsville. Imagine if the BBC let Sue Barker go all lusty over Roger Federer. In fact, do imagine that. It's marginally more pleasant than this interview.
Eurgh.
Also slightly disturbing that the BBC, rather than hiding this somewhere (or just deleting it and refusing to let Michael Stich interview anyone ever again) has marked this as 'Editor's Choice'.
Marina Hyde
had a great piece on this in today's Grauniad. Yuck.
