If Next Week's Singles Were Dogs, What Would They Be?
KAISER CHIEFS - NEVER MISS A BEAT
"What did you learn today? I learned nothing! What did you do today? I did nothing!" SONGS ABOUT NOTHING ARE NOT COOL, even if it is supposed to be a comment on the apathy of Stabby Britain or summink. Not even a Ronson toot at the end can lift this above same-old plod masquerading as a bit clever.

ATTIC LIGHTS - WENDY
"Embedding disabled by request" on the official video, apparently, which immediately makes me grumpy. But you get the doo-wah gist from this live version, and we are biased what with it being called Wendy, and it is nice and summery, even if it's now ear-achingly cold outside.

SUGABABES - GIRLS
I'd like all girl bands to step away from the fucking horns and start making amazing electro music again, but whatever. Sadly we could never be as insightful as this YouTube commenter:

Nicely put, you massive headcase.
If this single was a dog, what would it be?
FOALS - OLYMPIC AIRWAYS
You know those indie boys you see in the street? The ones with impossibly tight trousers, plimsolls, dyed black hair and lumberjack shirts? If you stuck a microphone into their brain it would sound exactly like this.
If this single was a dog, what would it be?
WHITE DENIM - SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE
Now this sounds like fun. None of your "an aviary for today" nonsense, just noisy sloppy shouting with a video that sets fire to a mattress in a scrap yard. Functional, compact and cleverer than it looks.

All of these singles are out to buy on Monday 6 October.
In my defence, when I made that YouTube comment I had just stubbed my toe on a table leg. I was so mad.
I am really disappointed, just came back from a looong summer break to find The lipster has been totally transformed from groundbreaking female empowering site ( it was a bloody amazing breath of fresh air!! finally an alternative to glamour, vogue and marie claire) to just another quirky blog about bla-bla-bla-pop culture. There are about a zillion sites like this, in all kinds of formats...:(...I am heart-broken.
I'm very sorry to hear that, and not a little upset. But here's how it is - we no longer have any funding behind the site, it's not our job any more, and we do it for the love of it in what spare time we can find. For those reasons we had to focus on just one of our interests, and we picked music. We're still the same pro-lady peoples.
Um, and I'm sorry as well - we were pretty disheartened and heart-broken, too (not to mention a few quid shorter every month). And if we won the lotteries, we would obvo chuck millions of monies at a site like Lipster 1.0. Mebbe we will do that eventually too. Until that time, we're going to ask a load of Indie/Dance/Hip-Hop types to answer stoopid questions.
i would just like to add as well..... i also desparately miss the "groundbreaking female empowering site", it was pretty much one of the best things on the internet, and made me laugh, a lot. I was super relieved though when you guys changed your mind and didn't shut down the lipster totally. pretty much all of the 'new' music i listen to, and all my new fave artists (such as Ladyhawke = ace) have come via the lipster. Music lipster is better than no lipster at all! so there! hopefully some rich people will come to their senses soon and give you your funding back.
@guesswhobatman: we hope so too. But thanks for all your lovely feedback - it's ups and downs, the internets...x
I think you actually made the right choice. Sites like Jezebel cover lots of the pro-lady stuff even if it has such a US slant and I think in the past there had been a tendency to write "this is an article we saw in the Guardian today which we liked" whereas it was clear your strength, and the reason that I loved the Lipster, was its focus on music. Even sites like Drowned in Sound could degenerate into a "cor look at her tits" mentality amongst some of its posters so its great that you are playing to your strengths and still provide a place where I can go to read about music. So thank you!
:( Oh, I didn't realize the direction was changed because lack of funding. If I earned a bit more than the average east-london creative poverty wage I would shower you with riches... - it was really a great concept and very nicely done. This is still a good page, I was a bit harsh as I was so shocked to find my fav blog transformed.
