Inspired by nothing more than getting stuck in an unfortunate and all-consuming DVD loop, here are this week's singles as characters from Freaks & Geeks. Starring Jack Penate, Lissy Trullie, Yo! Majesty, Joe & Will Ask? and Mr Oizo.

Lissy Trullie - Boy Boy

The video appears to be for an older version of Boy Boy and it sounds a lot flatter than the one we've got, which is ridiculously catchy straightforward indie-pop, with added "wooo-oooohs" and a nice sideline in dissing cool boys. It's basically Rizzo from Grease, were we not doing characters from Freaks & Geeks.

Mr Oizo - Pourriture EP

An EP that's actually six whole songs long, plus lead track Pourriture X, plus a weirdo Lynch-ey film which puts CDs in a packet of sandwich ham? <3 <3 <3 Mr Oizo. Which I keep typing as "My Oizo", which probably says more than this ever could.

Yo! Majesty - Don't Let Go

With its late '90s house warbling and occasional sound of a console malfunctioning, this is the most straight-up mainstream chart bid Yo! Majesty have made so far - even more than Club Action's radio-friendly rework "funk that beat", which made a lot less sense than the original. But they might have split up again by the time you read this. "Volatile".

Joe & Will Ask? - Mongozo EP

This is a live video what should make one understand that Joe & Will Ask? make music for nightclubs where people might be squiffy on gin and juice. Politely, Mongozo only waits about a minute before going properly bonkers, which gives it an edge over the dance music where you have to get past the noodley bits first. Well done Joe and Will.
