If This Week's Singles Were YouTube Virals, Which Would They Be?

By Rebecca Nicholson

YouTube, eh? What a week it's had. In memory of what it once was, here are this week's singles as viral videos, even though we had to go to MySpace to get the music ones. The lord giveth, he taketh away. This week, La Roux, The Rakes, Metric and Hockey...

La Roux - In For The Kill

As is fairly obvious from our frequent witterings (like twitter, but from ye olden tymes), we like both this and La Roux, and find the backlash - already! - a bit baffling. So hooray for the fact that it is at 17 in the midweeks and could well be a proper top 20 hit. The charts will thank you for buying it.

If this were a YouTube viral, what would it be?

The Rakes - 1989

I shall repeat what Wendy said on DiS, who was repeating what a naughty person said on the message boards, that this should have been called 2005. The internet is now ready to eat itself.

If this were a YouTube viral, what would it be?

Metric - Help I'm Alive

Emily Haines could sing the TV listings for Sunday night on Bravo 2 and it would still sound lovely. Also <3 the new album. Lovely, lovely Metric. NB that video is obvs the slow, contemplative, synth-less version. Which is a bit less good.

If this were a YouTube viral, what would it be?

Hockey - Too Fake

LCD for babies. Which is a reason to like it, surely.

If this were a YouTube viral, what would it be?

Keane - Better Than This

For the good of Wendy Roby, sacred Keane shall ne'er be dissed on the Lipster, so I shall say only this: "..." (Ashes To Ashes)

If this were a YouTube viral, what would it be?

All of these singles are out to buy as of right now.
