It's Leonard Cohen weekend
We know very well that getting up before midday on a Saturday is tantamount to weekend blasphemy, but hey, all we're asking you to do tomorrow is flick on the radio and then you can nip back into bed. Why? Because Radio 4 is broadcasting Leonard And Marianne, a ruddy exciting half-hour documentary about our Lord God Leonard Cohen and his lover Marianne Ihlen – of who he wrote the classic So Long Marianne. Obviously.
The pair met on the Greek island Hydra way back in 1960, and a couple of years ago, a Norwegian Radio station spoke to both Leonard and Marianne about the song and their lusty affair. It was the first time Marianne – who was married to a Norwegian novelist when the relationship took place – had ever spoken out in English about her part at Leonard's muse.
If that doesn't quite fill up your weekend quota of pervy doom pop, then get ye to the Big Chill festival on Sunday, where the man himself will be closing the festival with a set that we can only hope will be even a smidgen as good as his Glastonbury performance earlier this year.
BBC Radio 4: Leonard And Marianne
