PLUMBING THE SHALLOWS OF NEW MUSIC

It's been a long time since we've watched MTV - blame YouTube and an aversion to The Hills - but their new modelling reality show is about to make us switch off for good.

Model Maker, the channel's latest brainwave (isn't it too late for another America's Next Top Model copyist?), started auditions in the States this week, but it's a big thumbs down to the obligatory plus-sized model - they're "looking for girls willing to shed the pounds (30-80 lbs), become a model and win $100,000!"

Since 80lb is roughly five and a half stone, and they're being asked to ditch that in just 12 weeks, it sounds fairly dangerous, not to mention banging-your-head-against-the-wall, are-they-really-going-to-do-this daft.
