The 25 Word Review
V/A - Not Doing It For The Quids (album)
A Full Time Hobby label comp featuring White Denim, Autolux and Malcolm Middleton? All for less than £2? We're spoiled. Don't mind if we do.

Lykke Li - Breaking It Up (single / video)
Stop-starts employed to rousing effect while kiddie choir and cathedral keys have Lykke’s breathless back, in this defiant confection about ditching your beau.

Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel (album)
Ro-land synths as massive as Grange Hill’s fat boy, ominous Numan-osity, snowballing clatters, arch yelps and angular Alkan-isms via Liquid Liquid. NY party perkiness, from… Donny?

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks - Shut Up & Bleed (album)
Fine reissue of Lydia Lunch and co's noisiest moments. Should elicit response of "What's this racket?" or "So that's where Sonic Youth got their ideas".

Solange – I Decided (single / video)
Solange shows she's huskier of lung than big sis Beyonce during this stripped-down soul and squelch funk shaker that's more old-school than Eton.

Bloc Party - Mercury (single/video)
"Brave" new direction or a whole lot of wasted potential which sounds like an explosion in a GarageBand chatroom? Divisive, but we think the latter...

The Mummers - Tell To Tale (Part One) (mini-album)
Tell To Tale sounds like a West End musical which escaped and was given a community project grant to record a pop album. Weird.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Evening / Morning (single / video)
Bombay Bicycle Club seem to attract words like 'precocious' and 'improbably talented', but those words are from their own press release. This sounds like Mansun.

Das Pop - Underground (single / video)
Friends of Justice and produced by Soulwax, Das Pop should be revoltingly too-cool-for-school. Instead they're a beefier Phoenix. Awfully sweet and kissable.

Peggy Sue And The Pictures - The Body Parts (EP)
It's hard to compare ladies without sounding lazy, but the one-time Pirates, now Pictures, really do sound like Laura Marling doing Adele covers. Nicely.
